Here is a face photograph of Van. Many Thanks to Brooks from KWAM (keywestaids.org) who added this picture and a link to this site (check it out) and to Wesley Calvin. It has been over 20 years since I’ve seen Van’s face – though I did not know him well, I found him very focus and passionate with his artwork.
Sorry – this is the only existing picture I have of Van. The caption below the pic reads: Richard Heyman (left) and Van Eno. Richard was the owner of the Gingerbread Gallery and the mayor of Key West at that time. The curator from KWAHS (Key West Art and Historical Society) mailed me this copy of Van’s obiturary in the newspaper. This news clipping was old and faded.
When I first created this site back in Sept 2006, I search the internet and made contacts with anyone that may have some biographical information about Van Eno. I got my first response from the Key West Art & Historical Society. The goal of KWAHS is to collect, preserve and present Key West history, since 1949.
The curator was able to mail me a copy of the Solares Hill news clipping that had Van Eno’s obituary and biographical information. It was dated October 1986. I typed out the entire article and posted it on this site (link). The copy was barely legible (since it was a copy of an old print) but it was very informative.
Thank you Norm!

Van Eno’s name is engraved on the White Street AIDS Memorial. The location code first indicates on which of the three major sections the Name is located: Sea, Center, or Street. Then the number following the “R” indicates the vertical row, 1 to 7. The “C” is the column going across, 1 to 14
The Key West Aids Memorial is a website to commemorate the people who have died of AIDS in Key West. First posted in 1995, this site is maintained privately. You are welcome and encouraged to contribute to this web memorial with your memories of Keys friends, family or acquaintances that have died directly or indirectly due to the AIDS plague. The White Street AIDS Memorial was dedicated on World AIDS Day, December 1, 1997. It was built with private funds, and then donated to the City of Key West. At the time of dedication, 730 names were included, listed in random order. In succeeding years, additional names have been added. There are now more than 1,000 names on the Memorial. The AIDS Memorial at White Street is a City of Key West park.
